The Consumer Product Safety Commission, or CPSC, is a government organization that oversees the safety of consumer products for American citizens. This commission monitors the risk of serious injury or death from over 15,000 products. These injuries can come from fire, electrical, chemical, or mechanical hazards. Their job is an important one because, according to their statistics, damages and injuries from consumer products cost more than $700 billion annually. But there are signs of improvement. This organization says that the number of deaths and injuries from consumer products has decreased by 30 percent over the last 30 years.

They also look at potential hazards in everything from household chemicals to children's toys and power tools to outdoor grills. Some of the most recent issues they have been dealing with are things like arsenic in pressure- treated wood, carbon monoxide from portable generators, and global classification of chemicals. The CPSC keeps a detailed database of product safety news and product recalls. They have over 4,000 product recall notices that can be searched by name. They offer instructions on how to deal with the specific recall and options the consumer has.

Their website also has a page for children to help them learn safety techniques for the playground, their toys, and even scooters and bikes. The page also offers games for children to help them learn these concepts.
