Teaching the entire family about certain fire safety rules can save lives. Fire safety messages are used to remind people about being careful when starting, putting out or dealing with fires. Getting your children and family educated with fire safety rules and familiar with fire alarms as well as fire extinguishers is a very smart thing to do. Fire safety messages used to be televised via Smokey the Bear on commercials and ads, but every so often there are home security commercials that display relevant safety messages as well. Some important things to know regarding fire safety are:

  • Make sure all of your fire alarms are working and fully operational.
  • Making sure that your flammable items are located in a safe vicinity of your home.
  • Knowing where your exits are in case of a fire.
  • Having some fire extinguishers around and knowing how to use them.
  • To make sure the stoves, propane/gas tanks are sealed and turned off or properly stored after use.

Fire safety messages are often ignored or seem like a waste of time until you hear about the 30,000 acre forest fire started by a person who couldn't remember to pour water on his camp fire after he was done.
