More people die from fires every year than hurricanes, earthquakes, floods and all other natural disasters combined. Children start over 100,000 fires a year. Fire safety month, October, is meant to help parents teach their kids about fire safety, and how to prevent fires. There are a few specific things you should teach your family about fire safety during fire safety month including what the escape route is, how to get out of windows, touch doors before opening them, stop drop and roll, and to stay out of a house that is on fire, even if they left something inside. During fire safety month, you can teach your children some other important lessons such as how fires are started, how to dial 911, and more. Use the month of October to educate your children about the dangers of fire, and teach them how to react to them. Since October is fire safety month, you could use that excuse to take your kids to a fire station if they will offer tours, or introduce them to some fire fighters. This will get your children interested in fire fighting, and more prone to learn.
