Wearing a seat belt is the most important thing you can do when you get into a car. Even if you think you are an excellent driver, most other people are not. Seat belt safety involves only one thing: using your seat belt every time you get into a vehicle. You have probably noticed the "Click it or Ticket" campaign by now. This is meant to target people who do not buckle their seat belts, and are not safe driving. Since this campaign began in 2005:

  • 20 percent less children die annually from car accidents.
  • Child restraint use has risen from 88 percent, to 99 percent, and restraint use among toddlers has gone from 60 to 94 percent.
  • Adult seat belt use has reached an all time high of 79 percent.

These statistics show the importance of using a seatbelt, and how it greatly increases your safety while in a car. To get an idea of how much seat belts help: approximately 35,000 people die from car crashes each year. Half of them could be saved if they were wearing seat belts. Do the safe thing. Click it.
